Since the Industrial Revolution, Huddersfield and Kirklees have been internationally recognised for the manufacture of fine worsted wool textiles. A Made in Huddersfield selvedge remains synonymous with exceptional quality. Yet the region's textile story extends far beyond its industrial heritage.

Textiles: Made in Huddersfield celebrated the vibrant culture of contemporary textile research emerging from the staff and students of the University of Huddersfield. Rather than focusing on manufacturing, the exhibition explored textiles as a mode of enquiry: a means of storytelling, community building, reflection and creative investigation.

The featured projects examined cultures of place through diverse research approaches. Participatory and co-created practices foster meaningful dialogue with communities, enriching research through shared knowledge and lived experience. Other works drew inspiration from the landscapes of Kirklees and beyond, demonstrating how place can both shape and be shaped by textile practice.
